We welcome applications in all areas of biological mass spectrometry, especially those involving either of the following:
The identification, quantitation or characterization of proteins from cell culture, tissue or biofluids. Support to include sample processing advice, access to proteomics-specific reagents, LC-MSn data acquisition and preliminary bioinformatics.
Targeted proteomics or metabolomics:
The development of quantitative assays for a defined set of biomolecules, and processing of a defined number of assays. Support to include sample processing advice, the development of assays for a triple-quad platform, data acquisition and reporting.
Successful proposals will have the following hallmarks:
A well-defined research hypothesis or clinical question;
Modern mass spectrometric methods that will have significant scientific impact and be achievable by the Catalyst technical team, using equipment within the SAMS Centre;
An internal “champion” within the grantee’s lab, with defined duties related to the project;
A plan for project continuation and/or;
A demonstration that new methodology developed through the project would benefit the wider research community in the University of Calgary
The Catalyst program operates in a dedicated mass spectrometry lab, limited to biosafety level 1 clearance. If sample handling requires access to level 2+ laboratories, sample processing must be managed by the applicant’s staff and within the applicant’s laboratory.
